

Robert Oren Stander, 94, passed away on Sunday, April 24, 2022, at home. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 am Thursday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in West Des Moines. Burial will follow at Resthaven Cemetery. Visitation and Rosary will be from 5-7 pm on Wednesday evening at Sacred Heart.
Bob was born November 14, 1927, in Chapman, NE, to Earl and Lillie Stander. He graduated from NE Wesleyan and the University of Nebraska. On April 19, 1949, he was united in marriage to Marcella G. Delaere. Bob was a teacher, volleyball coach, principal, and superintendent. He made a career change to the insurance industry and retired as a District Manager for Travelers Insurance. Bob was a member of Sacred Heart Church, the Traditional Choir, SH Guys Luncheon, St. Vincent De Paul Society, Theta Chi Fraternity, and the St. Serra Club of Des Moines. Bob was a Founding Grand Knight of Sacred Heart and was a 4th Degree Knight in the Knights of Columbus.
Bob is survived by his two daughters, Suzanne (Steve) Peglow of Des Moines, and their grandchildren, Kourtni, Stephen, Victoria, Zoe, Alice, Zachary, Garrett, and Jaelynn. Sheila Stander of West Des Moines; three siblings Sara (Gareld) Wulf of Fremont, NE, Carol (Ed) Franco of Lafayette, CO, and Charles Stander of Pensacola, FL.
Preceding Bob in death were his wife Marcella, sons Robert Jr. and Stephen, parents Lillie and Earl Stander, siblings James Stander and Ila Mae Chatfield, nephew Tom Lutz and niece Amy Van Dyke.
Bob enjoyed antiques, especially clocks, Husker football, and other NE and IA athletics; he loved golf, woodworking, tending to his flower gardens and winters in Gulf Shores, AL.
He was mindful of the needs of his family and was known as the Renaissance Man. He loved spending time with his nieces, nephews, and other family members. Bob was generous with his time and financial resources to his family. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
