Ruth Cooper, 93, passed away on Monday, February 29, 2016, at Mercy Hospice in Johnston. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, March 3, 2016, at McLaren’s Chapel with burial at Resthaven Cemetery in West Des Moines.
Ruth was born July 14, 1922, in Darlington, PA, the daughter of James and Sarah McKean. She graduated from Geneva College, Beaver Falls, PA and taught school in East Liverpool, OH, San Diego, CA and for 35 years in Des Moines, IA. Ruth was a long time member of St. Paul Presbyterian Church in Johnston and the Order of Eastern Star.
Ruth is survived by her sons, David Cooper of West Des Moines and Jim (Janet) Cooper of Urbandale; daughter, Donna Cooper of Boulder, CO; grandchildren, Lindsie (Mark) Moberg, Anna (Danny) Nelson and Britt Cooper; great-granddaughters, Gwen and Lucy; and numerous nephews, nieces and extended family. She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Donald E. Cooper.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at McLaren’s Chapel. Memorials may be given to St. Paul Presbyterian Church in Johnston.
