On October 8, 2025, Susie B. Strayhon gained her wings as the heavens opened to welcome her home. Susie was born April 2, 1939, in Bellamy, Alabama to the late Jo Betty and Jullian Vawters. She was preceded in death by four of her siblings: Virgina, Mary Belle, Arthur, and Ben.
Susie graduated from Livington High School and moved to Chicago Illinois in 1966 with her children. Susie met and married Bryant Strayhon.
While working at Spiegel Catalog Company, Susie attended Daley Community College, where she completed Nursing Assistant classes and earned her CNA certification. Susie loved sewing, gardening, cooking, and caring for others. She was a very hard-working, independent woman who always put her family first.
She is survived by her three daughters: Diane Jackson, Theresa Oakley, and Sharnae Jones, one son: Wayne Oakley; one son-in-law Anthony Jackson; Three granddaughters: Quintella Ivory, Jessica Clemons and Freedom Jones; two grandsons: Brian Oakley, and Josiah Frazier; and four great granddaughters: Shanice Oakley, Janae Ivory, Mia Henderson, and Morgan Henderson; two sisters: Mary Ann Johnson and Ora Dee Glover. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who loved her dearly.
