A Celebration of Life Visitation will be held at McLaren's Resthaven Chapel & Mortuary, located at 801 19th Street, West Des Moines, IA, 50265, on November 23, 2025, from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm. There will be a private family entombment of ashes at the Resthaven Mausoleum at a later date.
Valerie was born on April 19, 1954, to Dr. Daniel D and Ann L (Peterson) Hinson in Chicago, Illinois. She graduated from Valley High School in West Des Moines in 1972. She continued her education at Iowa State University graduating with her bachelor’s degree in education in 1976. Valerie was united in marriage to Randy Moffatt on August 27, 1977, at Grace Lutheran Church in Des Moines. There were three children to this union, Jennifer, Brian, and Jeff.
After college, Valerie worked as a substitute teacher for the Newton, Iowa school district. After that she worked as a dental assistant and receptionist for Dr. David Lleweyn in West Des Moines, where she retired in 2016. She was an avid Iowa State Cyclones fan, she enjoyed watching them from the comfort of her home. Valerie loved shopping and felt great after finding the deal of the day.
Valerie is survived by her husband of 48 years, Randy; her three children, Jennifer Moffatt, Brian (Joanna) Moffatt, and Jeff (Abbie) Moffatt; six grandchildren, Caden, Tyler, Mason, Aiden, Avery and Connor; four sisters, Julie (Brian) Kile, Melissa Hinson, Kris (Mitch) Thielbert, and Carrie (Thomas) Cummings. She is preceded in death by her parents.
