

Born on September 16, 1926 in Somerville, MA, he was the son of the late Thomas and Helen (Lee) Fitzpatrick.
Jim graduated from Charlestown High School in 1944. During his high school years, Jim participated in many sports including swimming, basketball and baseball and was later drafted by the Boston Red Sox.
He proudly served in the U. S. Army during WWII in both Japan and Hawaii and upon returning home continued his service as a U.S. Customs Inspector.
Jim enjoyed golfing, traveling and rooting for each of the Boston sports teams, but above all, he cherished the time that he shared with his family. He will always be remembered for his warm smile, laughter and sense of humor.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Marion (Keenan) Fitzpatrick; his son, James R. Fitzpatrick, Jr.; and his daughter, Gail M. Smith.
Jim is survived by his son, Thomas K. Fitzpatrick of Acton, MA; his grandchildren, Kerri A. Smith of Sterling, VA, J.B. Eric Smith and his wife, Kerri of North Kingstown, RI, Lauren M. Ellis and her husband, Derek of Waltham, MA, Andrew J. Smith of Holliston, MA, Erin M. Mattus and her husband, Dan of Burlington, MA, Nicole F. Fitzpatrick of Waltham; 3 great grandchildren; his son in law, John B. Smith of Newport, RI; his daughter in law, Linda L. Fitzpatrick of Waltham, MA as well as several nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 am on Wednesday, August 21, 2013 at Holy Trinity Church, 246 Main Street in West Harwich, MA.
Burial will follow in Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne, MA.
