Joan Mooney, wife of John P. Mooney and mother of John F. Mooney, died March 9th in hospice at Liberty Commons. She was 80. She is survived by her husband, son, daughter in-law Edna, and 8 year-old grandson, Fintan.
Joan and her husband John were residents of East Harwich, having moved up to the Cape from New York City in 2001.
Joan was a senior legal administrator for many years with the Equitable Life Assurance Company, later AXA. Before that she was also a teacher in the NYC public school system, and for a brief period was a featured soprano with the Village Light Opera Company in New York. Joan was often cast as the ingenue in many Gilbert & Sullivan and Rodgers and Hammerstein roles while with Village Light Opera.
Joan's son John has been a stand up comedian for nearly 20 years and most recently recurred as Reverend Gary on NBC's "30 Rock." John hopes his career will continue to flourish and will make every effort to realize that in honor of his mother.
A funeral Mass is planned for 11:00a at Holy Trinity Catholic Church Friday, March 15th.
