Nancy Scott Hellstrom, aged 79 of Wayland, departed this world on January 13, 2023 at Emerson Hospital with her family alongside. Nancy was born on February 6, 1943 to her parents Sam and Virginia, and was soon joined by her brothers Bruce and Richard. In 1969 she married her husband and lifelong companion Douglas and soon added sons Carl and Eric to her family. Raised in Needham, she summered on Cape Cod where she was a member of Stone Horse Yacht Club.
A graduate of Needham High School, class of 1960, Nancy’s love of learning spanned her life and she earned a Bachelor’s Degree from Rollins College, class of 1964, and a Master’s Degree in Library Science from Boston University. She was a lifelong avid reader and belonged to multiple book clubs. Nancy’s fondness of books was shared with her love of travel, and her unwavering sense of adventure took her around the world. When home she enjoyed gardening and belonged to the Wayland Garden Club.
Nancy’s favorite activity was embroidery and she was president of the Massachusetts Chapter of the American Needlepoint Guild, Inc. at the time of her passing. Two of her countless creations, a Christmas ornament, and a chair inspired by the novel Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, were displayed at the White House.
Nancy is survived by her sons Carl and Eric; her brothers Bruce with his wife Ginger and their children Betsy, Kristin and Dana, and Richard with his daughter Mandy; her grandchildren Christopher, Violet and Calla; and her many other family members and friends who shall forever love her.
