OBITUARY

Nancy H Pistel

6 July, 1942 – 18 November, 2025
IN THE CARE OF

Doane Beal & Ames

Nancy Blaess Pistel, 83, of West Barnstable, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully on November 18, 2025, in Hyannis.

Born on July 6, 1942, in Sturgis, South Dakota, she was the daughter of Henry and Zella Blaess. Nancy was shaped by the grit and independence of her Midwestern roots—qualities that defined her throughout her life. She earned her bachelor’s degree from Augustana University, where she was a proud member of the field hockey team, and later received her master’s degree in education from Springfield College. Nancy was predeceased by her beloved husband of 58 years, Robert “Bob” Pistel; her parents; her brother, Jack Blaess; and her nephew, John Blaess.

She is survived by her children, Christopher Pistel and Rebecca Wood, and her son-in-law Chuck. Nancy was a proud and loving grandmother to Cooper, Micaela, and Addison. She also leaves behind her cherished nieces, Ann Blaess and Mary Zarella.

A founding member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Harwich, Nancy was a woman of conviction—steadfast in her beliefs, loyal to those she loved, and unafraid to speak her mind. Her devotion to her family was unwavering, and she approached life with determination and purpose.

A lifelong animal lover, Nancy adopted many of her beloved pets from the Animal Rescue League of Boston’s Brewster location, where she found companionship and joy in the animals she welcomed into her home.

Nancy will be remembered not just for her strength, but for the way she showed up—for her family, her church, and the causes she cared about. Her legacy is one of loyalty, perseverance, and fierce love.

A private family burial will be held.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Animal Rescue League of Boston’s Brewster location in honor of Nancy’s lifelong commitment to animal welfare.
