Herminia Ballestero Sanchez, passed away peacefully, in her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Havana, Cuba on March 15, 1925. Her family immigrated to Cuba from Spain after the Spanish Civil war for political reasons. She became a nurse in Cuba and dedicated her early life to caring and bringing comfort to many. It was there that she met the love of her life, Rafael Ballestero M.D. They married and had a beautiful family of three children.
Herminia always had a glow of positivity. She was a loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, who always put other’s needs before her own. Her late husband passed away at an early age. Herminia dedicated herself to raising their three children, loving and emotionally supporting them until her last breath.
Herminia enjoyed years of travel, adventure, and companionship with her second husband Roberto Sanchez. He is a loving and caring grandfather who quickly accepted her family as his own.
Herminia was welcomed into Heaven by her parents, all of her siblings, and her late husband Dr. Rafael Ballestero. She is survived by her three children Marta Ballestero-Gagnon (Mario), Rafael Ballestero (Kris), and Ana Muth (David), six grandchildren, one great grandchild, and her spouse Roberto Sanchez, of Tampa, Florida.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in remembrance of Herminia to one of her favorite charities: SmileTrain, Make-A-Wish Foundation, Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, or St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.
