

BERTHA BEASLEY PANKEY Bertha Beasley Pankey, age 90, of West Palm Beach, FL died on Wednesday, June 8, 2011 following a brief illness. "Bert" was a remarkable woman. She pursued higher education after raising four children, and devoted herself to teaching not only in schools but also by reaching out to young people who had challenges in life. Bert cherished her church family, and devoted many hours to its worship and work. She relished spending time with her grandchildren and sat through many thousands of hours of Little League baseball games. Bert was also proud of having donated well over ten gallons of blood to the local blood bank. She was predeceased by her husband, L. A. Pankey; two sisters; and her daughter, Lou Ellen Woehst. She is survived by daughter, Susan Parker (John) of Austin, TX; two sons, Jim Pankey (Joy) of Savannah, GA and Bill Pankey (Catherine) of Palm Beach Gardens, FL; a foster son, Brian Mickles (Joan) of Chattanooga, TN; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and several other "foster" children who were nurtured in their home by Bert and Pankey.
