Edward William Callahan was born to Clara and William Callahan in New York City on July 17, 1930. He passed away on March 17th as the result of injuries sustained from a fall. From being an Eagle Scout, to a Westinghouse scholar, to president of his fraternity (Phi Kappa Psi), to earning a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering from Cornell, Ed was always a high achiever. But it was his vibrant personality that really made him a success in life.
He worked for Allied Chemical (which is now Honeywell) for 42 years, where he was the corporate Vice President for Health, Safety and Environment. During that time he was also Chairman of the World Environment Center, a Founding Trustee of the CIIT Center for Health Research, and Chairman of the Business Roundtable’s Environmental Committee.
He married Barbara Jane Willmarth in 1985. After he retired in 1995, they enjoyed traveling and splitting their time between New York City, Long Island, and Florida.
He was a member of the Society of the Four Arts, the Order of Saint John, and Holland Lodge. He also belonged to a number of social clubs, including the Union Club in New York, and the Everglades and the Bath and Tennis in Palm Beach.
He is survived by his loving wife Barbara, and two children from a previous marriage, Susan and Kevin.
A funeral will be held Thursday, March 27th, at 11:00 AM at the Church of Bethesda-by-the-Sea.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to Bethesda-by-the-Sea, 141 South County Road, Palm Beach, Florida, 33480
