Jim Passed peacefully in his sleep surrounded by the love and presence from husband Richard and siblings Janice, Steve, and Ken.
Jim was born on December 8th, 1957, to Leslie and Cam Lance in New Castle, PA but spent most of his childhood living in Andover, OH. He worked hard even as a very young man. His work ethics never wavered. After High School he ran to the warmth of Coco Beach, FL. There he had an apartment on the beach and worked for hometown friends in their seasonal boat rentals. He began buying and refurbishing properties. A side hobby that lasted many years.
Eventually he landed in Palm Beach County working for Seacoast Utility Authority. Jim began work on August 3, 1987, as a construction inspector. Having demonstrated extraordinary problem-solving skills, he was repeatedly promoted, ultimately to Construction/Development Manager on June 12, 1995. Ultimately, Jim’s responsibilities were expanded to include all water and sewer land development activities in Seacoast’s rapidly growing service area. His boss of many years said about him “Seacoast has employed many talented individuals over the past 38 years, but none has surpassed Jim’s perceptiveness. My final words to him were, “There has never been anyone like you, and as far as I am concerned, there never will be”. I meant it – and for once, I was right.
Jim loved cars (and washing them), health and fitness, and reading magazines about both. He enjoyed (most of the time) remodeling homes, yard work, traveling the world with his husband, camping, and walking. But, most of all Jim loved his family. His family meant everything to him. Talking to them and playing games gave him immeasurable happiness. He was protective, caring, and loving. A man full of honor, dignity, energy, and integrity. A person you may not always agree with but he always commanded respect!
A religious celebration of Jim’s life will be held at St Andrew’s Episcopal Church 100 N. Palmway, Lake Worth Beach, FL 33460 on May 25, 2024, at 1:30 PM. Immediately following will be a graveside service and reception at Hillcrest Memorial Park 6411 Parker Ave West Palm Beach, FL 33405.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Lambda Legal.
Though Jim may be gone from our sight, his spirit will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know him. May he rest in eternal peace.
Forever in our hearts,
The Family of James (Jim) Edward Lance
