

Waugh, James Lawrence, Jr., 89, passed away peacefully at home, March 14, 2016. He was born in Lake Worth on November 15, 1926. He started school in Lake Worth, attending Palm Beach County public schools and graduated from Palm Beach High School in 1944. He served in the United States Navy during World War II, from 1944 to 1946, then graduated from the Georgia Institute of Technology (Georgia Tech) in 1949 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Management. He worked at the family business, Halsey and Griffith, and retired from there in 1989, having served in several capacities, including president from 1977 to his retirement. He moved to Stuart in 1989. He was a deacon at Memorial Presbyterian Church in West Palm Beach, a member of the West Palm Beach Rotary club and a member of the Sons of the American Revolution. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Viola McWhorter Rodecker Waugh; his sister, Margaret Waugh Siemon; his daughters, Lee Ann Elfers (Fred Elfers), Carolyn Jane Waugh, Francie Cho (Yon Cho) and son John F. Waugh. His eldest son, William Scott Waugh, predeceased him. He is also survived by his grandchildren Fred Elfers Jr, Elizabeth Elfers Green, Tyler Waugh Carlson, Clara Cho, James Cho, William Cho and John Cho and great grandchildren Lorelei Elfers, Landon Elfers, Wyatt Green, Brody Green and Grayson Green. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 PM on Thursday, March 17, 2016, at QUATTLEBAUM FUNERAL, CREMATION & EVENT CENTER at HILLCREST, 6411 Parker Avenue, West Palm Beach, with interment to follow in Hillcrest Memorial Park.
