Born on March 4, 1927 in Hartford, Connecticut, Jane was the youngest of 6 children. She lost her father at a very young age, the first of many hardships, which would prove no match for her resilient spirit. She left home at sixteen to marry the love of her life, just before he served in World War II. Their first child died at birth. Never the type to lose hope, they were blessed with eight more and many dozens of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Jane always had a sparkle in her eye. She showed us how to find joy and wonder in the everyday, often while gathered around the table. There, Jane would create and tell stories, some based in fact and others in whimsical fantasy. She used her expressive, bright eyes to engage us, and her dynamic voice to bring characters to life. Jane was the consummate host, who loved to serve tea and ice cream. Jane also relished a good game (or 20!) of daily bridge, often attributing her impeccable memory late in life to this habit.
A devout Catholic, Jane prayed unceasingly, forgave generously, and sacrificed with a full heart. We have no doubt that heaven has welcomed her with heaping scoops of ice cream, a couple of nickel slot machines, and a polka music dance party. No one could deserve it more.
