Magaly “Maggie” del Carmen Campiña Puig was born on July 21, 1936, to Enrique Campiña and Natalie Quiles in Havana, Cuba and passed away peacefully at home on September 24, 2022, surrounded by her devoted husband, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Maggie was known for her renowned patience, wittiness, not holding back her opinion and a knack for telling it like it is! She always told you the truth even if it wasn’t what you wanted to hear and always went after exactly what she wanted, even if everyone told her it was a bad idea. Maggie was usually always right and ready with her quick response of “Yo te lo dijé!” Magaly met the love of her life Alberto “Pipo” Puig in March of 1960 and because she always went after exactly what she wanted they were married on May 19, 1960. Maggie and Pipo went on to have a remarkable life with four beautiful children: Alfredo Puig, Natalia Puig, Enriqueta Puig Padron, and Lazara Puig Fuentes, 8 Grandchildren and 10 Great-Grandchildren. In November of 1965 Magaly and Alberto made the heroic decision to immigrate to the United States of America with the intent on providing a better future for their children, this decision would allow them to have a life fit for a movie. Maggie and Pipo lived in Boston, New Jersey, and West Palm Beach during their magical 62-year marriage, filled with endless family meals that included her reminding us “no me puedo perder la novela” and “yo no como pan”; even though she ate lots of “pan” and we always made sure she didn’t miss her “novelas”! Maggie’s greatest joys were her family, countless friends, Target, saying “May God Bless You”, and endless travels that took her and Pipo all over the United States and Europe. Maggie was a devout Catholic with years of services to La Cofradia Nuestra Señora de la Caridad del Cobre as a catechism teacher, chorus member, Thanksgiving Meal volunteer and humanitarian. Maggie was a proud American but also found happiness is telling stories of her life and family in Cuba, teaching you how to make the best Arroz Con Leche, frijoles, bacalao, ropa vieja and saying the Rosary for someone in need. Maggie was also known as Mami, Abuela, Grandma-Grandma, Abuela-Abuela and a nurse. She was an avid markswoman with her legendary pearl handled .38 Special, a beloved wife, an incredible mother, a doting grandmother, and loyal friend. Magaly is survived by her Husband, 4 Children, 8 Grandchildren and 10 Great-Grandchildren and leaves behind a legacy of incredible quips such as “después de la risita, viene el llanto” , “estos muchachos me tiene loca” , and “que Dios te acompañe”.
