I miss Marissa. She had a great sense of humor and a kind heart. She was so smart. We met on a group trip to Europe and I liked her friendly personality immediately. She was such a good friend.

I am so very sorry to hear of the loss of a Saint Mary's sister.   May she rest in peace.  My prayers are with Marissa and your family.

Dear Maureen, Henry and Marissa's siblings and family... I am so sorry for your loss. I had the honor and privilege of having Marrisa as a student when I taught at Cardinal Newman. Marrisa was a wonderful young lady.  I also was blessed with seeing the Stevens family for many years  at St. Juliana. I am now a deacon at St. Luke Catholic Church in Greenacres: a mass will be celebrated for Marrisa on Sunday, March 30, 9:00AM. I will be assisting as deacon. I know Marissa touched a lot of lives. She touched mine through my friendship with her father and mother Henry and Maureen, who are among my dearest and closest friends. I shared in their concern for her suffering and illness. But I will always cherish two special moments. All four of us coincided in my beloved city of Rome in 2007, I think it was, when I met her and thought "What a beautiful, interesting young lady." I remember us walking along those beautiful streets, not very long, but long enough to provide real memories for me. And then, one afternoon at her house, when Henry hosted some African seminarians, students of mine, in a discussion of poverty in their countries, at the end, as we all said goodbye, Marissa gave me the warmest hug. I was somewhat taken aback by the depth of her affection and kindness. And so her life was short, but it as a s long as the Lord wanted, I think, and since God is love, the acts of love she made can have an infinite effect on others, beyond what "eye has seen" and we can imagine, in the mystery of God's embrace with those arms he stretched out to embrace us all.

May the peace of Jesus Christ which surpasses all understanding envelop every member of your family, especially Henry and Maureen.  Our family loved Marissa as you well know and she always came to our home with a bright smile and chattered about the things that mattered to her in her life.  I am so glad that we were a small part of her life.  Our son, William, will miss her forever for all the wonderful memories that the two of them shared.  Her struggle has ended.  We believe very firmly that she is already in the loving arms of Our Savior and Lord, Jesus Christ, who redeems those whose suffering in this world is unbearable.
