Luigi grew up in Liessa, a small village in Friuli, northern Italy. During the Occupation, Luigi distinguished himself at a young age in the Alpini resistance movement, a chapter in his formative years that made him very proud and won him tremendous respect and admiration from the Italian community throughout his long life.
Luigi married his sweetheart Alma and between them, they decided to leave war-torn Europe and seek a new life in Canada. Luigi arrived first and having established that BC was the most desirable province to set up their new home, sent for Alma.
Alma and Luigi settled in North Vancouver and resided there throughout their 68 years of marriage. They raised three daughters. He was very proud of his family and credited their successes to the loving and caring family values they lived by. As a father, Luigi always put on a disciplined demeanour, but the girls knew from experience that just under the surface was a softie of a Dad.
Luigi had an incredibly strong work ethic, that won him praise throughout his long career. He was respected by his employers in his profession as a man of high integrity and specialized skills.
Luigi leaves behind him not only his Loving Wife Alma, three adoring daughters and their husbands, Elaine/Ross, Diane/David, Marina/Hugh, but four grandchildren Tony, Brian, Luke and Siena who have been blessed by his presence and are making their way in this world stronger for having his values embedded in their DNA.
Luigi was the ultimate host and to be a guest at his table was a privilege, not only because you were exposed to Alma’s superb Italian cooking, but there was always a glass of homemade "black" wine, grappa, espresso or 7Up on offer, and these gatherings were often accompanied by Luigi's talents on the accordion or harmonica.
Salute Luigi! We know you'll be saving us a seat at your table upstairs.
Ti amiamo Marito, Dad, Suocero (Father-in-Law), Nonno, Zio, Amico
