David Edward Scott Munson, 83, passed away peacefully at North Shore Hospice, North Vancouver on June 22, 2026, surrounded by loved ones. Born on October 25, 1942, in Woodstock, New Brunswick, David was a caring and patient older brother to his siblings Jim and Mary.
An avid golfer and skier, David also maintained a lifelong connection to the water – spending his childhood summers in the Bay of Fundy, joining the Sea Cadets as a youth; and later enjoying his passion for boating, sailing, and salmon fishing in the waters of British Columbia.
After graduating with a degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of New Brunswick, he worked as an Electrical Engineer for several years before earning an MBA from Western University (in London, Ontario). He then went on to build a long and distinguished career as a dedicated banking executive across the country.
Moving to Vancouver from Montreal, Mississauga, London and Calgary, David settled in West Vancouver in 1976. There, he raised his two young children, Scott and Suzanne, with his late wife Janet. Together, they shared a love of camping, boating aboard The Barley Sandwich and travelling, until her passing in 1992.
In 1993, David re-connected with a Campbellton childhood friend, Sharon (Pollock), whom he married in 1998. They built a wonderful, fulfilling life together devoted to sailing on Allegria, travelling, attending symphonies and operas, and spending time with their grandchildren.
A kind and gentle man, David will be lovingly remembered for his quirky sense of humour, dry wit, meticulous use of language, passion for good food, and his pride and love for family.
He leaves behind his devoted wife, Sharon (née Ellsworth); children Scott (Maggie) and Suzanne (John); stepchildren Natashka (Matt), Aaron (Tannis), and Sonya (Seth); grandchildren Carter, Emma, Rowen, Coleman, Evan, Connor, and Kea; brother Jim (Ginette); nephews Jamie and Claude-Mathieu and many cousins, extended family, and friends. He was predeceased by his first wife Janet (née Wright), parents Rev. J.E. and Dora, and his sister Mary (David).
David’s family wishes to the thank the professionalism of doctors and nurses at Lions Gate Hospital, the nurses, caregivers, and staff during his brief stay at the Lynn Valley Care Centre and everyone at the North Shore Hospice who provided comfort and peace during David’s final days.
A celebration of life will be held at a future date.
In lieu of flowers, donations to Plan International are appreciated.
