Dolores Steele

November 23, 1930 – June 26, 2026

Dolores Steele passed away peacefully in North Vancouver on June 26, 2026, at the age of 95, in the same community where she was born. Her passing followed a long and courageous battle with Alzheimer's disease.

Born in North Vancouver on November 23, 1930, Dolores trained as a nurse at St. Paul's Hospital and became a registered nurse specializing in pediatrics — a vocation that suited her natural warmth and her gift for caring for others. She retired from nursing in 1958 following the birth of her son David, and devoted herself wholeheartedly to her family as a dedicated homemaker while her children grew up.

Over the years, Dolores and Donald made their home in many parts of British Columbia, including Hazelton, Terrace, and Kelowna, before settling on the North Shore. Wherever she lived, Dolores was an extraordinarily avid gardener. Her garden in West Vancouver was the pride of the neighbourhood, a reflection of her patience, her eye for beauty, and the quiet care she brought to everything she tended.

Above all, Dolores treasured her family. She spent countless happy hours with her grandchildren over the years, and the time she shared with them was among her greatest joys.

Since 2018, Dolores made her home at Amica in Edgemont Village, where she was affectionately known to her nurses and the staff as "Mamma D" — a testament to the warmth and affection she inspired in everyone around her, right to the end.

She was predeceased by her beloved husband Donald, who died in 2016 after 63 years of marriage, and by her son David in 2022. She is lovingly remembered and deeply missed by her daughter Denise (Michael); her son Douglas(Lisa) ; her daughter-in-law Heather and her six grandchildren: Gillian, Kathleen, Hayley, Dylan, Courtney, and Sabrina.

Her family is grateful for the full life she lived and the love she gave so generously across the decades.
