

Dorothy Jean Higgins (nee Stephens) died peacefully on May 1. Dorothy was born on April 17, 1925 and grew up in Cheslea, Ontario. She was the eldest of 5. She started post-secondary studies at 18 and ultimately completed Toronto Teachers’ College at 25. She was a kindergarten teacher in Toronto for 35 years. She loved to travel and be in the sunshine by the water with a glass of wine. She did three exchange years in California – Woodland Hills (1969), Modesto (1976), and Mountain View (1980). After her retirement from teaching, she spent the next 30 years going 6 months in Florida followed by 6 months in Toronto. She loved her time in Florida and the many friends she made there. At 90, she moved to Vancouver and found the Westerleigh. She made wonderful friends and cherished her time at the Westerleigh.
Dorothy is survived by her only son, Tom (Leanna), her beloved grandchildren Stephanie, Samantha, Jadon, and Celia. She is also survived by her sister Isabel, and her many nieces and nephews.
Dorothy enjoyed a good long life, well-lived with much to be proud of. She just celebrated her 98th birthday surrounded by family and friends.
At her request, there will be no funeral or reception – she never liked them!
