1928 - 2018
Evangeline May Brossard passed away on July
9th, 2018. She is survived by her children Elodie
Ellingsen, Loretta (John) Jellis and Dan Ellingsen;
her grandchildren Tawny (Doug) Fremont, Guy
(Tammy) Jellis and Antonia (William) Cherry; and
her great grandchildren Katie Jean Cherry, Melissa
Fremont, Weston Fremont, Eloise Cherry and
London Jellis.
Vange began painting in high school and continued
to create in one form or another for the rest of her
life, winning numerous awards for writing, painting
and print-making. Her thirst for knowledge never
died; over the years she studied painting,
photography, sculpture, pottery & ceramics,
weaving, art history, archaeology, anthropology
and even welding. As well as training in San Miguel
de Allende, she attended Vancouver Art School
and multiple colleges and universities across
Greater Vancouver.
She was a regular contributor to several North
American arts publications and Vange’s work has
featured on the covers of Sounder and Room of
One’s Own. In 1998 she was a finalist in the
Canada-wide Competition for Excellence in the Arts,
and in 2016 Beaches was published, a collection of
Poetry and Paintings by Evangeline Brossard.
Vange’s output was abundant in every field; she
exhibited, and has work in private collections, in
Mexico, USA, Canada and Europe. Art was her
passion, but she also loved her garden, the news
and Sunday morning coffee with family and friends.
We are grateful for the support from Vancouver
Coastal Health; we wish to thank the amazing
nurses from North Shore Community Health, and
the wonderful nurses, doctors and staff at North
Shore Hospice. In lieu of flowers, donations to
North Shore Hospice would be appreciated, in the
name of Evangeline May Brossard, our beloved
Mom - Gramma - GG - Vange.
