Herbert Rogers-Jones

It is with great sadness that we announce that our

brother Herbert Rogers-Jones passed away

peacefully on June 29, 2026. He was born in Ruthin,

North Wales, on October 30, 1935. He immigrated to

Canada in December 1956 along with his parents,

his two sisters and brother. After graduating from

Vancouver Technical Institute in auto mechanics, he

joined a fellow student, and they operated a

garage/automotive business for many years. In later

years, he bought a large "dump truck" and went up

North to construct highways. He worked on the

Trans-Canada Highway between Prince George and

Clearwater for many months. He enjoyed Canada's

big wild country. He enjoyed hunting, but I don't

remember him actually catching anything. I believe

he got his sense of adventure from our mother- she

used to accompany him all the way up north in the

middle of winter and then return by train from Jasper.

He was multi-talented and mostly self-taught. He

was experienced in house construction, electrical

wiring, plumbing, etc. He seemed to have an innate

talent for knowing how various equipment worked,

having never seen it before. He made his own

websites - all very technical. He loved travelling, and

when we were younger, we rented a camper van and

travelled all over Europe. When we travelled in

Canada and the US, the three of us travelled in the

comfort of an air-conditioned car, and he would lead

the way on his Blue Norton Commando motorcycle.

In 1976, he bought 5 acres in Langley - he

constructed a huge barn mostly on his own - with

some help from his siblings. He raised sheep, hens,

and ducks there for over 30 years. The barn is still

standing! He was predeceased by his parents, Dilys and

David, and our dear sister Anne in 2024.

A Funeral Service for Herbert will be held on

Wednesday, July 22, 2026 at 11:00am at Hollyburn

Funeral Home, 1807 Marine Drive, West Vancouver,

B.C.

We wish to thank the wonderful staff at Lions Gate

Hospital and the kind and considerate staff at The

Inglewood Care Home in West Vancouver for looking

after Herbert for the past few months.
