Jean-Pierre Michel Bachellerie

With profound sadness, we announce that Jean-Pierre Bachellerie of Vancouver passed away on Wednesday, August 19, 2026.

Jean-Pierre was predeceased by his beloved wife, Ann—his partner in every sense: in family, in business and in life. Together, they raised their children, Chantal and Jean-Paul, and welcomed countless guests through the doors of their Vancouver restaurants — Caprice, Bogart’s and Jean-Pierre’s.

A natural host, Jean-Pierre had a wonderful sense of humour, a genuine curiosity about others and the rare gift of making people feel immediately at ease. Those who knew him will remember his warmth, his smiling eyes and the familiar “tu sais” that made every conversation unmistakably his.

France remained close to his heart throughout his life, while Vancouver became the home where he built his family, his friendships and a lifetime of enduring memories. He continued to enjoy the companionship and gentle competition of bridge well into his later years.

Fiercely independent, Jean-Pierre continued to live in his North Vancouver home until the very end.

Jean-Pierre’s life is best measured not simply by the years he lived, but by the people whose lives he touched—the family and friends he loved, the guests he welcomed, the stories he shared and the laughter he inspired.

He is lovingly remembered by his daughter, Chantal, and her husband, Theo; his son, Jean-Paul, and his wife, Michelle; his granddaughter, Isabella; and, in France, his brother Alain and his sisters Claudine and Thérèse. He also leaves behind extended family and many dear friends across Canada, England and France.

His absence will be deeply felt, and his memory will always be held with tremendous love.

A Celebration of Jean-Pierre's Life will be held at a later date.
