

Kevin Dominick O’Connell, our dear Dad, died at home surrounded by his children on December 16, 2017. Kevin, was born in Penticton, June 8, 1934, and is predeceased by his beloved wife Daveen (Dinny), parents Daniel and Edna, and sister Claire Lowe. He is survived by his children Daniel (Roxanna) of Oliver, B.C., Catherine (Brad) MacKinnon of Haines Junction, Y.T., Aileen (Robert Dmitroca) of North Vancouver, Thomas (Mary) of Saint John, N.B., and Colleen of Vancouver, and sister Maureen of Calgary and brother Larry of Parksville, B.C. Grandfather to Jamie (Ross), Cody, Tara (Neil), Cameron (Dana), Owen, Laura, Kathleen, Vincent and Jane, and has five great-grandchildren. Kevin was an avid athlete, excelling in baseball, basketball, football and hockey. He attended UBC on a basketball scholarship, but ended up instead as an All-Star with the Thunderbird football team. Kevin graduated from UBC Civil Engineering (1957), and worked for 40 years as a civil and structural engineer working on bridges, conveyor systems, container cranes and heavy industrial structures. Kevin’s deep abiding faith in Jesus Christ brought him joy. He was a devoted leader of the North Shore prayer group and in his parish community. With his characteristic humility and humour he made friends with all he encountered. Our heartfelt thanks to his caregivers and the North Vancouver Palliative Home Care team for their compassionate care of Kevin.
His funeral Mass was at 10:00 am on December 20 at St. Stephen’s Parish, East 24th St. and Mountain Highway, North Vancouver. In lieu of flowers, donations to LGH Foundation – NS Hospice and Palliative Care Project.
