Mary Patricia Tompkins

Mary Patricia Tompkins, born in Brandon, Manitoba, passed away peacefully in her home which she adored in West Vancouver on September 19, 2017 surrounded by lots of love and caring from her family and people she loved. Our beautiful, amazing and extraordinary mother will be forever treasured in our hearts. Patricia is predeceased by her marvellous and loving husband, Laffin, and survived by her children, Joanne (Robert), Paul (Anne-Marie), Mark (Rikke), David (Pauline) and her grandchildren Sarah, Brigitte, Matthew, Nicolas, Alexander, Michelle, Maxwell, Lola, Kyle, Mark and Michael. Patricia is survived by her lovely sister and brother, Joan Whelan (nee Kennedy) and Frank Kennedy and many nieces and nephews.

Our elegant, kind and thoughtful mother, Patricia, grew up in Brandon and later met our father, Laffin, when she visited her brother, Don, in Calgary. Once married, they moved to West Vancouver to raise their children sharing with each one their wonderful zest for life, strong work ethic, positive advice, strength of character all the while giving us lots of love and encouragement to just do our best. In addition to her family, her enthusiatic interest in creative decorating and a flair for fashion, Patricia enjoyed playing the piano, the swim group and meetings at the Probis Club. Patricia was passionate about as much bridge as possible with Laffin and also with the ladies, and her involvement with UNICEF Canada. Patricia was officially recognized by UNICEF Canada for her contribution as a member of the Board of Directors and by UNICEF British Columbia for her outstanding contribution during Expo’86 and as Provincial Chairman for UNICEF British Columbia.

A funeral mass will be held on Saturday, September 30, 2017 at St. Anthony’s Church, 2347 Inglewood Avenue, West Vancouver at 12:00 noon.

Patricia’s family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to her amazing, kind and caring doctor, Dr. Maryam Zeineddin and her wonderful staff who gave her exceptional care in every way.

If so desired, in lieu of flowers, donations in Patricia Tompkins’ name may be contributed to UNICEF Canada in recognition of Patricia’s joyful involvement with UNICEF.
