Born March 18th, 1933, in Perth, Australia, Noreen moved to Vancouver as a young woman, setting off with her best friend Judy on a globetrotting adventure. While visiting Vancouver in the mid 1950's, Noreen fell in love with a young engineer, our dad and granddad, Lorne Wilson. The two of them led a long and happy life, raising three children and living in Richmond, Vancouver, Montreal, Perth, and Buenos Aires before finally settling down in West Vancouver. They enjoyed more than 50 years of marriage before his passing in 2011.
Noreen spent many years working for airlines, both in Australia and here in Vancouver. She always made the most of the social connection and travel opportunities that came with working in the industry Noreen loved going for coffee with friends and family, and could always be found adding extra whipping cream to any dessert put in front of her. She was also fond of taking walks in Horseshoe Bay village, chatting with and befriending many neighbours and local shop owners. Beyond being effortlessly friendly and hospitable, Noreen was always effortlessly stylish. A master seamstress since her youth, she made many of her own clothes. She could always be found donning leopard skin accents, violet vests, red sweaters and trendy shoes well past her 90th birthday, a true influencer of her era.
While she needed a walking stick and hearing aids (that she stubbornly refused to use), our mom and grandma was blessed with no major health issues throughout her life. We should all be so lucky to have 93 years of uninterrupted good health, adventure, love, and friendship.
Noreen is predeceased by husband Lorne and son Rob and will be dearly missed by daughter Tricia, son Chris, grandchildren Taylor and Samantha, and children-in-law Karen, Richard and Andrea, along with her loving extended family in Australia and Nevada, her countless friends and “surrogate children” whom she mentored and supported through her decades on this planet.
Our mom and grandma has been a steady rock for our whole family, and she will be dearly missed. It has been the greatest blessing of our lives to get to spend so much time with her, and we will forever treasure the visits, the phone calls, and the memories.
A private family celebration is being held in Noreen’s honour on October 24th.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the North Shore Hospice in Noreen’s memory.’
