Pat Byrne

August 5, 1935 - November 18, 2024

It is with great sadness that Pat’s family announce her passing.

She will always be remembered for her zest for life, her love of friends and her devotion to family.

Pat was born and raised in Vancouver, BC. She shared a wonderful childhood with her parents Percy & Theresa White, and siblings.

She attended UBC and later graduated as a Registered Nurse from St Paul’s School of Nursing. Upon graduation she used her nursing skills and love of travel by becoming a flight attendant with United Airlines.

While living and working in California, she met her husband Bill. Here they welcomed their 3 children Michael, Erin & Heather. Pat then left the airline industry and went back into the medical field.

She had a vital role in the medical community of Palm Springs, where she was offered the opportunity to attend medical school and become a doctor. Having a young family to raise she was unable to accept this opportunity. The gold Lifesaver Necklace she wore was a gift from Dr. Decrenis, because of the values and the skills she brought to his team and he referred to her as his lifesaver.

After moving back to Vancouver, Pat taught nursing, ran North Shore Home Support Services, was on the Lions Gate Palliative team, helped create Honor a Life and was a proud parish member of Christ the Redeemer Church, where she was always available to help those in need.

Travel was one of her greatest joys and she was always up for an adventure. She made wonderful memories and friends along the way. She will be lovingly remembered and dearly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

For all that she accomplished during her life, Pat was most proud of her daughters and her two grandsons Nathan & Shawn. She was a hands-on Nannie who loved taking her grandsons on daily adventures around Vancouver.

Pat was pre-deceased by her husband Bill, son Michael, daughter Erin, her parents and brothers Dick and Harry. She is survived by her daughter Heather, grandsons Nathan & Shawn, sister Gerri Tarchuk, brother Frank White, sister in law Gill White, son in law Jamie Avantini and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

A Celebration of Life and a Memorial Mass will be held on Friday, January 31 at 12 pm at Christ the Redeemer Church, 599 Keith Road, West Vancouver, BC

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her memory to Camp Kerry (Lumara Greif & Bereavement Care Society, 322 – 198 Island Hwy E., PO Box 809, Parksville BC, V9P 2G8) and /or North Shore Search and Rescue (63 Bewicke Ave., North Vancouver, BC, V7M 3B6)
