Roma is survived by her children - Ron (Matte), Joey (Carol), Deborah (Kevin), Michael (Mona), David (Karen) and her grandchildren - Sarah, Jess, Benjamin, Harrison, Clayton, Danni, Dorian and her great grandchildren - Cruz, Louie, Julian, Abigail and Mia.
The family would like to thank the wonderful team of caregivers that looked after Roma in her last year, especially her live-in caregiver and long time family friend, Douglas Rush.
Roma was born in Israel in 1930 and served in the Israeli army during their War of Independence in 1948. She was one of El Al's ( Israel's airline) first flight attendants in the early 1950's. She met the love of her life, Sydney in Montreal, Quebec. He was her husband for 53 years until his death in 2006.
One of Roma’s many great skills was baking, having studied at Le Cordon Bleu School of Cooking in Paris. There were always 2 or 3 desserts at a dinner meal in Roma's lively kitchen. She was also an accomplished pianist, music teacher and played her Steinway Grand Piano until arthritis made it too difficult.
Roma was a very free being with a delightfully towering personality and an exceptional passion for life. One never knew what Roma would do! She had the strength to overcome all obstacles, an incredible sense of humor and had a loving, kind, generous heart. She was devoted to her family and was always there when anyone needed help.
Roma also loved and helped dogs and she owned many during her lifetime. Her last (and present) dog, a little Chihuahua named Nitro was her constant companion and he did everything and went everywhere with her. For many years, they walked at Ambleside Beach in West Vancouver every day - rain, shine or snow. She was very well known there and on her 90th birthday, her many dog walking friends named her the "Queen of Ambleside Beach!” She will be sorely missed by all her "subjects’ - the dogs who waited for their daily biscuits. And by their owners too!
A Celebration of Roma's Life will be held on June 28, 2025 @ 3:00 pm in The Ocean Room at The West Vancouver Community Center, 2nd Floor, 2121 Marine Drive, West Vancouver V7V 4Y2. Free Parking available in the parking lot.
In fact, Roma will be greatly missed by all.
