MACPHERSON, Shirley Isabella Young Daughter. Sister. Aunt. Mother. Wife. Friend. It is our sad duty to announce that Shirley MacPherson (née Blackie, and formerly Bull) passed away on April 24th, 2021 after a lengthy illness, at her home in West Vancouver. She i s survived by her husband, Paul MacPherson, and her older daughter, Adrienne Bull, and sisters Carol and Wilma, as well as nieces and nephews. Shirley was predeceased by her younger daughter, Jacqueline Bull, and her brother, James Blackie (Jim). Shirley was born in Paisley, Scotland in 1936 to Margaret and William Blackie, and was the oldest of four children. She met her first husband, Eric (Wally) Bull, whom she married in 1954, and together they moved to Africa, where they lived until their first child, Adrienne, was born. In 1967, they emigrated to Canada and ultimately settled in West Vancouver, in a house that she continued to live in until September 2020. In 1970, a baby girl, Jacqueline, was adopted into the family. After her first marriage ended in 1980, Shirley continued to raise her children in West Vancouver, until Jacqueline developed leukemia in 1982. After a 2-year long battle, Jacqueline succumbed to the disease in December 1984, which left its mark on Shirley, and her daughter Adrienne. In 1986, Shirley met Paul (who was visiting from Ontario) at an Expo-86 related event. They married in 1989, settling in the house in West Vancouver, where they remained until September 2020. Shirley helped Paul to run his companies, doing much of the book-keeping for many years. They did a lot of travelling around the world, for both business and pleasure. Shirley had a love of needlepoint, embroidery, knitting and making clothes as a young woman, and developed a love of cooking, going so far as to travel to Tuscany for cooking school. Her Joy of Cooking cookbook is dog-eared, covered in dried ingredients and the spine finally broken after so many decades of use. Thanks go to the nurses and doctors at Lions Gate Hospital, and to the caregivers who helped care for her in her final months at home. A very deep debt of gratitude goes out to Rose for all that she did to help Shirley in the last two years, in nearly every capacity. Thank you, Rose, you are heaven sent. Goodbye, Mom - you can now tell Jacqueline everything that happened since she left. Be not said for me, for I am with you always I leave you all now, smiling and at peace Where I go now, I am but a breath on the wind And the whisper in your ear Mine is a life lived For my legacy lives in you, As long as you remember me. As I shall remember you. - Adrienne
