Passed away at 93 years of age with her
loving husband by her side. Predeceased by
her mother Grace Robertson and father Ross
Dalgleish, and brother Ian, Virginia is survived
by her husband, Frank; children, Chris, Jane,
and Doug; grandchildren, Jessica, Shanleigh,
Laine, John, Ross, and Claire; and brother
Neil Dalgleish. Virginia was born and raised in
Kamloops and grew up loving the gentle hills
that reminded her of the Scotland she later
visited. Whenever she travelled back to
Kamloops, she would often remark that it was
wonderful to return to “the hills of home”.
She grew up within a loving family that
cherished family relations and their Scottish
heritage. In her youth, her summers were
spent at ‘Fish Lake’, Breakwater Island, and
at Shuswap Lake. Virginia met Frank in the
last years of high school and their relationship
continued after they had both moved to
Vancouver. Virginia graduated from VGH
nursing school in 1947 and shortly afterwards
she and Frank married. They lived an exciting
life that included building a dream home on
Tsawwassen Beach, a house in Kerrisdale,
and a magnificent retreat on Shuswap Lake.
She raised her children in the Dunbar area
and watched her grandchildren take their
first steps in Kerrisdale. Virginia worked hard
in laying down values and supporting her
children’s and grandchildren’s interests,
driving selflessly to music lessons and
cheering at hundreds of hockey games,
soccer matches, and rugby tournaments.
Virginia became a wonderful hostess,
providing home-cooked meals for a constant
stream of Frank’s clients and employees of
his public relations firm. Many became
lifelong friends. Virginia was a great traveller,
visiting Britain multiple times, much of Western
Europe, cruising on the Mediterranean,
visiting Greece, Egypt, the Baltics, and Japan,
as well as spending winter vacations in
Mexico, Jamaica, Grand Cayman, Anguilla,
and Costa Rica. Her last trip she took was a
cruise southwards from Hawaii to Tahiti, the
dream trip of a lifetime for her. Virginia will
always be remembered fondly for her love of
Hawaii and her dancing of the Hukilau at
family gatherings. She will be greatly missed
by all who knew her. Rest in peace Mom.
