1943 – 2026
It is with immense sadness that we share the news of the sudden death of W.A. (Tony) Grieve on May 24, 2026, in West Vancouver.
He is survived by Kima, his loving wife and closest companion of 61 years; his sons Cameron (Leah, and her daughter Skye) and ScoN (Sara); his grandsons Harper (Abby) and Jesse; his brother Bob;
and his nephew Bill and niece Shannon.
He will be greatly missed by his many friends and acquaintances. As it is said, “he cut a wide swath.”
Tony had a very successful career in sales, first with Xerox and then with Colliers, where he was honoured to be a member of the board of directors. He was an amazing salesman and consistently
recognized as a top producer, driven by his interest, energy, focus, drive, and curiosity. A continuous learner, he was forever asking questions; it was how he connected with people. He
was a hard worker and demonstrated an incredible work ethic, mentoring and inspiring many – none more than his sons and grandsons. One of his most satisfying experiences was his time on
the board of directors of Blackcomb Mountain, where he was valued for asking astute questions from the perspective of the skier, and through his steady encouragement through the challenges as they arose.
Beyond an impressive career, Tony lived a fulsome and balanced life. He enjoyed skiing, biking,
hiking, and adventuring around the West Coast and to incredible locations around the world. Whatever the adventure, Tony was usually ahead of everybody, setting a fast pace, always with Kima by his side and whichever group of his friends was available to join in and keep up!
In his twenties and early thirties, many summers were spent with best buddies aboard The Running Tide, cruising the BC Coast up to Desolation Sound and often meeting up to a raft alongside
other boaters to share stories over an evening rum and coke and freshly harvested sea food.
He enjoyed 41 consecutive years at Langara Fishing Lodge, a record he was proud of. He spent
many of those years there with his sons and grandsons, passing on his love of the ocean and his passion for fishing.
He also passed on his love of good food and his skill in the kitchen, where meals became a shared
effort and the table a gathering place for good wine, good company, and a lot of love.
In later years, Tony and Kima lived in Nicklaus North where they played golf frequently, and cross
country skied religiously. Whilst living there he discovered a passion for kayaking the River of
Golden Dreams, and the two could often be spotted pulling their kayaks out of the river and
portaging them through the neighbourhood.
Tony lived every day at full stride, and he leaves a lasting wake. He will be profoundly missed by all whose lives he touched along the way.
A celebration of Tony’s life will be planned for a later date.
