

She graduated from St. Mary's School of Nursing as a RN in 1944. She was drafted into the Navy; she was released from active duty, due to the Atomic bombing of Hiroshima. Stella met her future husband, a veteran of WWII while in nursing school. She told him “No” that she wouldn’t marry him until she finished nursing school. After the war ended Earn come home from the Philippines and went to the hospital where she worked and asked her to marry him. And that began the storied love of her life. She retired as a registered nurse and supervisor for West Calcasieu Cameron Hospital after 42 years of dedicated service. After her retirement her friends and neighbors would come to her for medical advice. She was considered the angel of the neighborhood. She was a devoted and active member of Westlake United Methodist Church. Until her death she provided hospitality to all of those who entered her home. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and always put her family first. She will be greatly missed by all who loved and knew her. She had a love for all animals especially her own four legged friends.
She is survived by her sons, James R. McFarlain and wife, Candy and Derril D. McFarlain and wife, Peggy Sue all of Moss Bluff; daughters, Sheila McFarlain Bodin of Lake Charles, Mona F. McFarlain Curl and companion, Johnny Manuel and Fonda J. McFarlain Hayden and husband, Kenneth D. all of Westlake; sisters, Betty Engeman of Ventura, CA and Minnie Culpepper of Falls City, TX; 15 grandchildren, numerous great grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Earn Lee McFarlain; son, Garry Lee McFarlain; sister, Jenny Schlabach; 2 brothers, Richard Marion Buckner and Elijah Henry Buckner; 2 grandsons, Frank Curl III and Kenneth Hayden Jr.;granddaughter, Jessica Hayden Daigle.
Her funeral service will be 11am, Wednesday, December 5, 2012 at Westlake United Methodist Church. The Rev. Betty Northen will officiate. Visitation will begin Tuesday 6pm-9pm at Hixson Funeral Home of Westlake and resume Wednesday 10am until service time at the church. Burial will be in Westlake Memorial Park.
