In the early morning hours of December 28, Barbara Kovacic (nee Ward) quietly slipped away after battling ALS for over six months. Barbara is reunited with her husband of almost 67 years, Edward P. Kovacic, who passed away on September 30, 2018. She is the daughter of Jack and Gertrude Ward (both deceased). Barbara left behind her loving children, Mary Denihan (Bill), Edward J. (Sharon Neu), Daniel (fiancé Dorothy Hale), Thomas (Barbara), Noreen Prescott (Jon), and Coleen Nola (Jim). Barbara was a loving and doting grandmother of 12 and is preceded in death by her oldest granddaughter, Tracey Vukovic. Her family legacy includes being a great-grandmother of 11. Barbara is the dear sister of Patricia Angelotti (David, deceased), Jack Ward deceased (Marie), Ginger Griebeler (Elmer), Nancy Olsen (Thomas), Timothy (Carol deceased), Terrence (deceased), Rita DeJulius (Dennis), Susan Mahoney (Patrick), Peggy, Kevin (deceased). She is a much loved Aunt by many nieces and nephews.
Barbara volunteered as a teacher’s aide for St. Jerome’s school and later in life joined the workforce. She was an avid supporter of the Police Memorial, the Cleveland Police Pipe and Drum Band and the Cleveland Police Foundation. She truly was “the woman behind the man” in encouraging her husband Ed to join the Cleveland Police Department and raise himself through the ranks. She loved being the wife of the Chief of Police, but more than that, she loved being a wife, mother and grandmother. Her family will cherish her last words to each and every one of them, a simple and heartfelt “I love you”. Visitation Sunday Jan. 6, 2019, 3 - 7pm at Holick Craciun Funeral Home 23040 Center Ridge Rd. Westlake. Funeral Mass Monday at 10am at St. Mary of the Falls Catholic Church 25615 Bagley Rd.
