David Mark Novak, born March 30, 1947, passed away unexpectedly but peacefully of natural causes on Monday, July 12.

David was a lifelong Clevelander who grew up in the Buckeye neighborhood. After graduating from Benedictine High School, David went on to study at Cleveland State University and earned his Juris Doctorate from the Cleveland Marshall College of Law. He was a longtime resident of Bay Village who spent most of his career serving the Cuyahoga County Juvenile Court as a magistrate. David was an artistic soul who loved to create and had a particular passion for photography, culminating in exhibitions at the Brandt Gallery in Tremont. He also deeply loved nature, which he expressed through his beautiful gardens and knowledge of local wildlife. David was a history buff as well as an avid traveler. He especially cherished his family’s Hungarian heritage, studying the language and traveling to the country many times. His large parties were well-known, bringing people from every part of his life together for fun and quirky soirées that were uniquely his own.

David will join the souls of his parents, Joseph Robert and Sophie Novak, and brother Robert. He will be forever missed by his son Nicholas and daughter-in-law Allison of London, England, daughter Marissa, son-in-law Rick, and grandsons Robert and Calvin of Bay Village, Ohio, sister Dolores Walmsley and her children April and Michael of Calgary, Alberta, Canada, and countless relatives and friends who were like family.

Friends may call at the Corrigan Craciun Funeral Home, 23040 Center Ridge Rd. Wednesday, July 21, from 2-4 and 6-8pm Funeral Mass Thursday, July 22, at 10am in St. Andrew Abbey, 10510 Buckeye Rd. Cleveland.

David took our wedding pictures in 1972 when my late husband Bill and I were married. Fond memories of my husband and I and David and Pete playing UNO and other games. We lived in the same building.
May he Rest In Peace

So sorry to hear about Dave's passing. While not fast friends growing up, Dave and family lived on 125th, and I lived around the corner on Forest Ave. In fact we first met and I knew him best having delivered the Cleveland News to his home during my short career as a news boy.

We graduated from BHS together but only started catching up at our 50th Reunion and one of the Buckeye Rd Reunions a few year back. I wish we'd spent time talking about our lives and careers since only after reading Dave's obit did I appreciate how much success he had had, including what appeared to be a remarkable family life.

With a postponed 55the BHS reunion rescheduled for September I'm sure his passing will be discussed and a prayed said for his soul.

RIP David, Buckeye and Benedictine Boy! You had a Great Life.

David was a dear friend, loyal, kind and enjoyed life. It was an honor to have known him, shared laughs and work with him at the Court. I'm so sorry your family didn't have more time to enjoy you and your great sense of humor. We will miss you. Great memories of hanging out in Tremont and checking out all the old neighborhoods of Cleveland. Your had the best parties in town. My prayers and sympathy to your family and loved ones.
