Alan Joel Cordover was born to Erma and Henry Cordover in Washington, DC on January 26, 1945. He passed away in the presence of his loving family on May 3, 2014.
Alan grew up and attended schools in Montgomery County, Maryland and graduated from the University of Maryland. Alan proudly served his country as a Quartermaster in the U.S. Navy from 1963 to 1969. His service will include military honors.
While attending the University of Arizona Graduate School in Guadalajara, Mexico he met another graduate student, Patricia Bergstrand. They fell in love, and their marriage in 1969 began their 45–year journey as husband and wife. Their family was blessed with a baby girl, Rachael Lorraine in 1976 and complete with a baby boy, David Henry in 1978.
While building his career as an executive, Alan and Patricia lived in Maryland, North Carolina, New Jersey, Minnesota, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and settled with their young family in California in 1981. Alan was a Vice President of K-tel, Inc. and helped establish their overseas presence while based in Rio de Janeiro from 1975 to 1981.
During his tenure working for the US division of K-tel, he wrote and directed the pilot for the popular 80s television program, “Kids Incorporated”. From 1987 to 1995, he was a Vice President at Paramount Pictures Corp. In 1995 he partnered to purchase a division of Paramount and created a company, Rightside Up. Alan’s kind and generous spirit is evidenced by the fact that the careers of many young family members and friends were launched at his very successful company. Alan sold Rightside Up and continued to work there as a consultant until 2000. Alan never considered retirement, and he continued his business endeavors as an executive at Kretek International, Brix House Wine and was currently working as Vice President at Cal Thermoplastics.
By 1986 the Cordover Family had moved to the Conejo Valley and resided in Agoura Hills where Rachael and David attended school. In 1994 they moved to the Lake in Westlake Village where Alan was an active volunteer on the Westlake Lake Management Board and a member of the Westlake Yacht Club. He resided with his wife Patricia in Sherwood.
Alan loved golf and was a current member of the Sherwood Lake Club and past member of Lakeside Country Club in Toluca Lake. As a passionate golfer he participated in many tournaments all over the United States. He was well travelled throughout the U.S. and abroad and fluent in three languages. He was a man of superb taste and was a collector of fine wines, cigars and most of all, dear friends.
Alan’s priorities always focused on his family. His presence will be greatly missed by his wife, Patricia, his daughter, Rachael Parent, his son David Cordover, David’s wife Maggi and Michael Parent. His grandchildren, Olivia, Colton and Scarlett Parent and baby, Henry Cordover, will dearly miss Papa’s hugs, kisses and love.
