It is with sad hearts that we bid farewell to our loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother, Betty Jean Randolph. Surrounded by her family, Betty peacefully passed away on Apr 18, 2015 at her home.
Betty was born Mar 21, 1924 in Detroit, MI to Joe and Muriel Birdsall, the youngest of three children, where she lived until they all headed to Southern California in 1954. She was truly a member of the greatest generation. She worked as a riveter during the war and did whatever she could to help family and friends. She met the love of her life, Ted Randolph, and they were married in Alexandria, LA in 1944 during a brief leave from his tail gunner duties in the Air Force until his passing in 1992.
Betty and Ted raised their four children in Southern California, arriving first in Orange County, they moved to Newbury Park in 1964 where they both had a long and distinguished career at Northrup Corporation. She loved her work and made many wonderful friends there. They had a wonderful life and enjoyed countless hours of boating, fishing, camping and traveling in their RV. Her children came first and she encouraged them in whatever they did.
Betty had a zest for life that is second to none. She loved people, politics and singing and dancing. Everyone was welcome in her home at anytime and you instantly felt like family. Anywhere you glanced in her kitchen was an uplifting article, quote or verse. She had a wonderful sense of humor and a terrific voice. She would often break out in song and a little soft-shoe dance. Always frugal, one of her favorite sayings was, “Use it up, wear it out, make it do or do without.”
Betty’s life revolved around taking care of others. After retirement, she looked after her husband and mother until they passed and decided it was time to go back to work. She worked in the china department of Robinson’s May for 10 years until she was 80, and made many more friends. After her second retirement, she enjoyed any family gathering and loved attending her grandchildren’s many functions. She was known as “Grandma Betty” by scores of people, besides her own.
Betty is survived by four children: sons, Mark, Gary (Charlotte) and Ted Randolph Jr. (Sue); daughter, Pam Jagoe (Kevin); grandchildren, Mark Jr. (Nicole), Brandon (April) and Christopher Randolph (Tawnia), Ryan Jagoe (Janna), Kim Smith (Kevin), Jennifer Jagoe, Trey, Barney and Casey Randolph (Shawna); and twelve great grandchildren.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to Vitas Hospice Care for their compassionate care during Betty’s final days. Additionally, they would like to thank Sunrise Assisted Living of Wood Ranch with a special thank you to Aubrey Adams and the entire Terrace Club staff for their exquisite care and making Betty and her families feel so loved.
Betty’s memorial will be held at 10am on Sat, May 9, 2015 at Pierce Brothers Valley Oaks Memorial Park in Westlake Village. Condolences to the family and tributes to Betty’s memory may be offered by visiting her personal web page at www.PierceBrothersValleyOaks.com
