JoAnn grew up in Manhattan until the age of 12, before moving with her family to Holbrook on Long Island. JoAnn loved playing with paper dolls and watching I Love Lucy as a child. JoAnn met the love of her life, Jimmy, when she was 14 years old. They were married on April 28, 1962. She was very proud of her family and the life she built with Jimmy, once stating, “I consider the greatest achievements in my life are that I married my husband, spent 49 years together, plus six years prior, and that we raised three loving children, college graduates, and a caring, wonderful family. We are all blessed. God has been with us all this time. He will never stop being with us.”
Friends and family recall how JoAnn was a talented seamstress and a fantastic cook. She created many (matching) outfits, pillow cases, purses, Halloween costumes, and one couch cover throughout her life. JoAnn made many traditional and memorable Italian dishes, and even managed to be the only person in the family to acquire a secret recipe from Jimmy’s uncle for rice balls. JoAnn was known for her homemade pumpkin pie, svengies, sausage and peppers, and legendary red sauce. JoAnn’s creations, meals, and love for others will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
