Peg was born in Los Angeles on Christmas Eve, 1949. The third child of Margaret and Vernon Stewart, Peg grew up in Gardena where she was known as the fastest girl in the footraces of Thornburg Park. Although she had early educational challenges, Peg had perseverance and went on to become not only a first-generation college student, but to also earn her master’s degree. She celebrated this achievement by backpacking solo through Europe for eleven weeks.
Peg married Bruce Kevin Anderson in 1977 and together they had two children, Gretchen and Shannon. Peg, a joyful and devoted mother, sacrificed her own needs to provide the girls with every advantage possible.
Peg was the founding director of the Simi Covenant Preschool and taught special education and elementary school in the Conejo Valley Unified School District for over two decades. For 23 of those years she taught at Madroña Elementary School, where she considered the faculty, staff, and students to be part of her family. Peg was a devout Christian for whom teaching provided the opportunity to practice her faith by serving others with daily acts of love, devotion, compassion, and caring.
Peg is survived by her daughters, Gretchen and Shannon, two brothers, Cliff and Steve, and two grandsons, Robert and Thomas. She is also survived by a nephew, many nieces, and many grandnieces and grandnephews, for whom she constantly showed her loving and caring spirit.
A memorial service to celebrate Peg’s life will be held at 4pm, on Saturday, March 24, 2018, at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 1 W. Avenida de los Arboles, Thousand Oaks, CA. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made at www.youcaring.com/peganderson and will benefit the Thousand Oaks Children’s Library.
