Marty was born in 1937 in Manhattan Beach, California to Loraine and Savino Martinelli. When he was 8 years old the family moved to Playa Del Rey. He spent his childhood in the ocean, bodysurfing, surfing and fishing off the pier. Marty's father was a school teacher and all of their summers were spent up in the Sequoia National Park, camping and working odd jobs. He attended Westchester High School and played football all four years. lt was in high school that he met his love, Josie Racinelli. After high school Marty enlisted in the United States Army and served 2 years for his country, and during that time, he wrote Josie often. When he returned home he hired on with the Southern Calif. Edison Company as a Lineman.
ln 1960, Marty married Josie and they bought their first home in Gardena, California. They had two children, Teresa and Tony, and lived in that house until 1968 when they made the decision to move their family to a newly- developing community called, Westlake. ln 1971, their third child, Joseph was born.
Marty ended up transferring to the Thousand Oaks District for SCE and was now an Underground Foreman. He loved his job and loved going to work every day. He had many great friends at the Edison Co.
Summers were spent camping and water skiing with friends and family at different lakes around California.
ln 1992, after 35 years with SCE, Marty retired at the age of 55. He spent his retirement surfing, mountain bike riding, hiking, stand up paddling, camping and spending every minute he could with his grandkids.
Marty loved his wife, his home, his family and friends. He loved being outdoors, being ltalian, loved his country and just loved the simple things in life. "Simplicity" he would always say.
On March 6th, he was called back to the Lord after a battle with cancer.
He is survived by his wife, Josie; children, Teresa Jellison (Brad), Tony Martinelli (Julie) and Joseph; and five grandchildren, Kelliann, Bradford & Christopher Jellison, and Josie and Elena Martinelli, whom he loved more than anything in the world. May he rest in peace and he will forever live in our hearts.
