

Nina Marina Papagelis, 88, of Thousand Oaks, passed away peacefully Saturday morning, May 5, 2012, after a lengthy illness. She was preceded in death by her husband, Anthony Peters, who passed in January of 1983.
Born in Lynn, Massachusetts on March 13, 1924 to James Papagelis and Angelina Vedouras, the Papagelis’ emigrated from Greece to the United States and started a family. There were seven children of whom Nina was the 2nd youngest child and the last of the Papagelis children. Her Father owned a Greek restaurant in downtown Lynn, Massachusetts and her Mother was a homemaker.
She is survived by her daughter, Kathy Peters (Vandermoon); son, Michael Peters and daughter-in-law, Joan Peters; Granddaughter, Caroline Peters; Grandson, Brian Vandermoon (wife Taylor Vandermoon); and Great Grandson Gavin Vandermoon.
Nina was a graduate of Lynn Classical High School, Lynn Massachusetts. She was a member of St. Demetrios Greek Church of Camarillo, a member of the Greek Orthodox Ladies Philoptochos Society, and a volunteer at the annual Greek Festival before she became ill. She was a retiree of Blue Cross of CA, Thousand Oaks.
Nina’s family would like to extend their sincere appreciation and thanks to the loving staff at Family Care Cottages, Thousand Oaks and to Buena Vista Hospice Care, Ventura, for their care and compassion during Nina’s final days.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday evening, May 8, from 5-6 pm with the short Trisagion at 6:00pm at St. Demetrios Greek Church, 400 Skyway Drive, Camarillo, as well as the Memorial Service on Wednesday, May 9, at 11:00 am. The Makaria (meal of blessingness) will be held at the church immediately following the service. Interment will take place at Pierce Brothers Valley Oaks, 5600 Lindero Canyon Road, Westlake Village, CA.
In Lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church Building Fund.
