Priscilla Schroeder, known to friends as "Pris," passed away peacefully at home on December 8, 2019, at the age of 85 years. She is remembered as a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend and advocate for many people.
Born in Syracuse, New York, Pris graduated from Nottingham High School and St. Lawrence University. In 1956, armed with her Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics, Pris became a pioneer in the computer industry working for General Electric in upstate New York. There she met another young mathematician named Harold Schroeder, who became her best friend and life partner for over 61 years. They married in 1958, and daughter Susan arrived in 1962 and son William in 1964. Once her children entered college, Pris re-joined the aerospace industry as a Programmer Analyst Specialist at Rocketdyne and worked there for over 20 years.
Pris was committed to helping others and giving back to the community. Her passion was education. She served on the Conejo Valley Unified School District Board of Education from 1975 through 1985 and helped to merge the previous Valley Oaks and Timber districts and build Westlake High School. She was also active in the Ventura County School Board Association and California School Board Association. She served as President of the Westlake Newcomers Club, Treasurer of Delta Kappa Gamma, and was active in Westlake Women’s Club, Alliance for the Arts, and Tri Delta Sorority. She cherished the many friends she met through these organizations.
By far, Pris was the most passionate about her service to her beloved alma mater, St. Lawrence University. She was a member of the Alumni Executive Council, organized numerous Saints Network events for Southern California alumni, served as the Reunion Development Committee Chair, and as the Class Reporter for the great Centennial Class of 1956. One of the most cherished memories of her life was the opportunity to present her wonderful grandson, Christopher, with his alumni pin at his graduation from St. Lawrence University in May 2018.
Pris lived life to the fullest and made a profound and lasting impact on many people. She will be remembered for her feisty spirit, positive attitude, willingness to listen and solve problems, interest in all sports, especially the UCLA Bruins, and her deep love of family and strong bond with her husband. She will live in our hearts forever.
To honor her extraordinary life, her family is planning a Celebration of Priscilla’s Life at 2 pm, on Saturday, January 18th, 2020, at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 32111 Watergate Road, Westlake Village, CA 91361.
Memorial donations in honor of Priscilla can be made to the Priscilla Schroeder Memorial Fund at St. Lawrence University, 23 Romoda Drive, Canton, New York 13617.
