

Thomas Duane Selstad was born early in the evening on September 20, 1934 in the upstairs bedroom of his Ofstedal parent’s home in Emmons, MN. Tom attended all 12 grades of school in the same building in Emmons and then attended the University of Minnesota for one year. He was awarded a full Navy scholarship to the University of Mississippi and attended that school for one semester before enlisting in the Army. He spent his two years of Army service in Vienna, Austria and Stuttgart, Germany, which he always said were the best two years of his life. Upon discharge, he returned to the University of Minnesota, where he earned his Bachelors degree in Liberal Arts.
Tom and Georgiana Christman were married in 1960 and moved to San Francisco. Tom and Georgiana had their first son, Scott in 1963. Shortly there after, the family moved to Agoura Hills, Ca. Tom worked for Metropolitan Life Insurance Company as a Claims’ Consultant and Investigator. In 1968, Tom and Georgiana had their second son, Daniel. Tom and Georgiana divorced in 1976. In 1982 Tom moved to Cincinnati, Ohio where he worked with Metropolitan Life until 1988. Tom returned to Agoura Hills, Ca., and retired briefly, and then from 1989 to 1998 he worked for the Principle Financial Group as an analyst. Tom formed a loving relationship with Willa Edling and remained friends until his death.
Outside of work Tom enjoyed crossword puzzles, golf and studying history. Throughout the 1970’s, Tom worked as the commissioner of little league baseball in Westlake Village. Tom was very fond of these years and poured everything he had into his role as commissioner. Tom spent his retirement with his six grandchildren and friends.
