

In loving memory of Velma Myers Papenfus, who passed away Tuesday, March 13, 2012 in Laguna Niguel, California. Velma is survived by her husband and lifetime partner Karl, daughter Jill, sons Jeff and Scott, grandsons Taylor and Mitchell, granddaughter, Sara and daughter-in-law Kristi. She was preceded in death by her daughter Sue, in 2006 and earlier by sister Marian (Kohlbacher) and brothers Bob and Bill.
Velma was born February 18, 1932 in Eldersville, Pennsylvania to Bruce and Nellie Myers. She attended Harmon Creek Elementary, Union High School, Muskingum College and Ohio State University where she earned a B.S. in Education. She taught school at Linden Elementary in Columbus, Ohio, and Bach Elementary in Ann Arbor, Michigan. She married Karl August 21, 1954 in Cadiz, Ohio.
Velma, in 1967, became one of the original residents of Westlake Village's "First Neighborhood". She helped establish Westlake Village's first Nursery School Program and for many years she was active in the Westlake Athletic Association. She was an avid organizer of Prop 13 support. Velma enjoyed swimming, sailing and league bowling.
Velma 's life was filled with love and good humor. There was always a smile for acquaintances, new friends, old friends and family. A good listener, her kind words and wise advice were valued by all who knew her.
A service will be held for relatives and close friends at 1:00pm Sunday, March 25 at Pierce Brothers Valley Oaks Griffin Memorial Park
