

Viola was a beautiful soul, full of faith and love. She was an excellent listener and had a practical no-nonsense approach to life. She enjoyed being a homemaker and was appreciated for her cooking and baking skills, and entertaining along with her crocheting and knitting abilities. She enjoyed people and fashion and was always dressed impeccably. At one point she worked at a clothing boutique, and more recently as a hostess at Cables Restaurant in Woodland Hills. She was employed there until she was well into her 80’s.
She is preceded in death by her beloved husband Joe Gurule, her son John Gurule, and grandson Damon Chaplin. She was sister to the late Leo Martinez, Ismael Martinez, Daniel Martinez and Samuel Martinez.
She leaves behind her daughter Anita Chaplin and son-in-law Richard Chaplin. She is also survived by her sisters, Edna Viet and Gladys Cox and brother-in-law Ron Cox; nephew Steven Cox, grandchildren Nicole Wilson and Jonathon Gurule, and great-grandchildren, Cole, Brooke and Sophie.
Viola will be truly missed. Her resilience, inner strength and love for life and others are an inspiration to all.
Viewing will be held at Pierce Brothers Valley Oaks Memorial Park Friday May 9th from 4:00 to 7:00 PM.
Funeral will be held Sat. at 11:00 AM at St. Mel Catholic Church with the interment to follow at the Valley Oaks Memorial Park.
