She was born on December 1, 1940, in Ninh Binh, Viet Nam, to Vu Huu Dung and Vu Thi Hoa, and was one of eight children-five boys and three girls. In 1954, her family relocated to Phu Tho Leu, where Chinh learned to sew and began working as a seamstress. At age 21, she opened her first tailor shop in Saigon.
In 1964, she married Liem Nguyen, and together they had six children: two sons and four daughters.
After immigrating to the United States in 1975, Chinh rebuilt her life in Westminster and established one of the first Vietnamese tailor shops in the area. Her shop became a cornerstone of the Vietnamese community in Orange County, where she was known for crafting elegant Ao Dais for weddings, celebrations, and other special events.
Beyond her successful business, Chinh was a devoted member of St. Bonaventure Church. Family and community were the heart of her life. Sundays were often spent in her kitchen, cooking elaborate meals for her growing family, which eventually included eight grandchildren. She especially loved traveling-Hawaii was a favorite destination, where she enjoyed time at the beach surrounded by her family.
Chinh is survived by her husband, Liem, and her children Trang, Thu, Anh, Viet, and Nam. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Patrice.
Her legacy lives on in her family and loved ones. Her smile, warmth, and laughter will be remembered always.
