Alice Tsing-Chun Yang (née Yu), 74, passed peacefully on December 19, 2020 with her family by her side. She was born on December 2, 1946, in Chongqing, China to Kwei-Hsin and Winifred Wen-Min Yu. Those close to her, knew her affectionately as “Yang-Yang”, a nickname given to her because she was born on the first sunny day (“Tai-Yang” is the word for sun in Chinese) during a long season of gloomy weather. Holding true to her nickname, Alice continued to be a positive light throughout her life to the world she touched.
Alice was known by many as an active and social person; Alice found great enjoyment spending time with her grandchildren, shopping, line dancing, singing karaoke, traveling, walking and bowling. Her main passion for the arts was realized during her childhood through her artistic talents. She fostered her talent and excelled while attending the Chinese Cultural Institute of Taiwan where she studied painting. After some time, she came to the United States where she earned her Master in Fine Arts at West Virginia University. It was in West Virginia she met James Ta-Chin Yang, whom she was married to in 1971. James and Alice eventually settled in West Windsor, New Jersey, where they raised their daughter Nicole, and son Michael. While balancing her family life, Alice led a fulfilling career in textile design which lasted for over 35 years.
Alice is survived by her husband James Yang; daughter Nicole, her husband Steve Tekirian and their children Abbie, Lindsey, and Nathan; son Michael Yang and his wife Christine Tan; sisters Winifred Lee and Lulu Loh and extended family members. Alice is predeceased by her father Kwei-Hsin Yu and mother Winifred Wen-Min Yu and sisters Lily Crawford and Jean Hu.
Alice will be forever in our hearts. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in her memory to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network (Donate - Pancreatic Cancer Action Network (pancan.org).
