Brenda Fusco entered into God’s loving care in the early morning hours of February 24, 2017. She was born in Italy on November 24th, 1920 to the late Filomena (nee Falso) and Francesco Fusco. She came to the United States in May of 1927 and lived in Palisades Park for over 85 years. She went to the public schools in Palisades Park and the Egan School of Business.
She is survived by her loving family, her sister Caroline Miraglia of Washington Township, her brother Vincent Fusco of San Antonio, her niece and nephews, Charles and Cindy Miraglia, Francesca and Scott Schoenblum, and Mark Fusco and her grandniece and grandnephews, Carly and Joey Miraglia, Michael and Andrew Schoenblum.
She was a retired bookkeeper who also worked in the garment industry. She was a parishioner of St. Nicholas Roman Catholic Church in Palisades Park where she sang in the choir for almost 80 years. She was also a member of the Legion of Mary and the Rosary Society there. She was a member of the Business and Professional Women of Bergen County, a member of the Leonardo DaVinci Society, a member of UNICO, Boys Town of Italy, and the Palisades Park Seniors.
Her love of singing was not confined to Church. She was also a member of the Bergen County Community Chorus, the Fort Lee Community Chorus, the Leonardo DaVinci Chorus, and the Molil Opera chorus. One of her proudest moments was being part of the combined choir that sang at the Papal Mass at Giants Stadium for Pope St. John Paul II.
Her sweetness, kindness and gentle demeanor will be remembered by all who knew her. She was a person who lived out her faith every day, and was a great example for others. While never a great cook, her skills as a baker set her apart. Her pies, even the “mistake” pie, cookies and especially cream puffs were a treat throughout the year, but especially at the holidays. We know that while she is no longer with us, the choir in Heaven has a new soprano ready to sing.
The family will receive their friends at Becker Funeral Home, 219 Kinderkamack Road, Westwood, NJ on Monday, 4-8pm. Funeral Liturgy at Church of St. John The Baptist, Hillsdale, NJ on Tuesday at 10AM. Entombment to follow at Garden of Memories, Township of Washington, NJ. Memorial gifts to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, stJude.org would be appreciated.
