Francis Warren Scaffa, age 94, of Emerson, passed away on Friday, January 11, 2019, two days before his 95th birthday. Beloved husband of the late Frances Scaffa (nee Viapiano) for 67 years. Devoted father of John Scaffa, and Christine Purcell and her husband Matt. Loving grandfather (Grampy) of Genna Scaffa, Daniel and Ryan Purcell. Predeceased by his grandson David Scaffa. Francis was born to Anthony and Anna Scaffa in New York City and raised in Westwood NJ. He was predeceased by his sisters Dorothy Gendreizig and Catherine Accorti. Francis was a veteran of WWII, serving as a US Army Air Forces B-29 airplane mechanic in the Pacific Theater. Later, as a member of the Teamsters Local #863, he delivered meat to A&P stores in the NJ and NY area. Upon retiring from the Teamsters, he was then the proud proprietor of Westwood Laundromat. Never missing a day, he opened the store every morning until he finally decided to “retire” when he was almost 90. Always ready to help family and friends, Fran provided both comfort and care for those going through difficult times. Above all, the greatest joy of his life was in caring for his four grandchildren, always generously giving of his time and attention. He will be forever missed. In his last years, he spent many hours reading and as an avid sports fan often watched football, golf, tennis and baseball. During this time, both he and Frances were blessed to have the support of loving caregivers. In honor of his wishes, all services will be private for the immediate family. Francis loved the water tremendously and treasured his summers boating and swimming at Greenwood Lake. He also spent many hours deep sea fishing. In memory of Francis, online donations may be made to the Greenwood Lake Commission for the Lake Cleanup Fundraiser at http://www.gwlc.org/donate-now/. Happy Birthday Grampy. We love you!
