Frederick W. Winkler

Fred worked for A&P for over 35 years. He was a 65 year member, past Chief, and past President of the Hillsdale Volunteer Fire Department and a member of its Exempt Association.

He loved to hunt and fish and was also an avid gardener. He was Co-President of the Friends of the Pascack Brook which has held the annual Kid’s Fishing Contest for the past 21 years. He was also a member of the Rock Tavern Rod & Gun Club, Rock Tavern, NY.

He was a Navy Veteran of WWII, a 67 year member and past Commander of American Legion Post 162, Hillsdale, NJ. He was a proud American and grateful to all of the service men and women who served our country.

Beloved husband of Erika Winkler (nee Joers). Devoted father of Patricia Graham and her husband Doug, Karen Kirk and her husband John, Rick Winkler and his wife Denise, and the late Doreen Thompson. He is also survived by eight grandchildren and ten great grandchildren all of whom were the joy of his life.

The family will receive their friends at Becker Funeral Home, 219 Kinderkamack Road, Westwood, NJ on Sunday, 3-9PM. American Legion service at 7:30PM followed by a Fire Department service at 8 PM. Friends can gather at the funeral home on Monday starting at 9:30AM for the 11AM service followed by burial in Westwood Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, contributions to the Hillsdale Volunteer Fire Department, 380 Hillsdale Avenue, Hillsdale, NJ 07642 or Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, 155 Second Avenue, Westwood, NJ 07675 would be appreciated.

Fred loved Hillsdale and spoke often of his gratitude to the families that helped him and his parents through difficult times.
