Jack Oates

OATES, John T.”Jack”, 80, of Emerson, NJ, passed away on Monday, September 12, 2016. He always greeted everyone with a big smile. We will miss his larger than life personality and story-telling. He was born in the Bronx, NY to Michael and Margaret Oates. Beloved husband for 55 years to Margaret “Peggy” Oates. Devoted father of Michael Oates and his wife Tish, James Oates and his wife Monica, Maureen McKeon and her husband Tom, Jennifer Banga and her husband Raj, Keven Oates and his wife Stacie. He is predeceased by his sisters, Rita McGinley and Irene Oates. Loving grandfather of Fiona, Maura, Ryan, James, Kacey, Tommy and Harper. He was an active parishioner of the Church of the Assumption where he was a former Usher. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Mother Seton Council. He served as President of the Westwood Swim Club and a member of the Emerson Men’s Club. He served our country as a member of U.S. Army Reserves and a member of the American Legion. Before retiring, he was a Salesman for Soabar, an Avery Denison Corporation for 35 years. The family will receive their relatives and friends at Becker Funeral Home, 219 Kinderkamack Road, Westwood, NJ on Friday, September 16 from 2-4 & 7-9PM. The Funeral Mass celebrating John’s life and faith will be held at R.C. Church of the Assumption, Emerson, NJ on Saturday, September 17 at 10AM. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made in Jack’s name to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
